An extremely thoughtful and curious person David has a voracious appetite not just for knowledge, but for understanding. He starts his day before any other radio personality in the area—combing through newspapers and websites looking for those stories that help to give understanding and clarity to the day’s issues. The listener, in turn, ends up with the city’s most comprehensive morning news presentation. All the fundamental “need-to-know” elements are covered throughout each hour of the show (news, weather, sports, as well as business and financial news). But just as important, they get David’s gems—those stories that help us to understand why things are they way they are, and perhaps challenge our preconceptions of who is right and who is wrong. And to top it off, listeners get David’s thoughtful perspective on life in Columbia. David Lile remembers to notice life in general. Frequently it is the things we take for granted, and forget to cherish. David does what we call “articulating intuition.” That is, he says things we know to be true, but have never heard said so well before.

Here's what he has to say about himself:

During my first trip to a radio station, I learned that I pronounced our nation's capital "Warshington." That's one of the good things about working in radio: A guy can learn something every day--especially at a station like News Talk 1400, KFRU.

I spent my time learning previously in Moberly, Bethany, and Independence, Missouri, and in Louisville, Kentucky. My lessons came from several different music formats and a variety of assignments and opportunities. What keeps me in radio are the guests I get to interview and the listeners who've let Daybreak become part of their lives.

I've liked sports; but as it becomes more money-controlled, I've become less enamored with it.
I've always believed I've been lucky, though, to have had the chance to meet several coaches worth admiring and to visit places like Lubbock, Texas, and Manhattan, Kansas, and Normal, Illinois. Really.I do like visiting the places basketball, football, and track and field have taken me. And I've been able to do play-by-play for some great games.

My first broadcasting job was in 1977.
Since then, off and on, radio has been part of my work experience.
I used to write what commercials were to be played on the schedule by hand when I interned at KFRU. Now I get to be on the air during the mornings.

I'm a guy from rural North Central Missouri who feels fortunate to be doing what he's doing.
